 Greg
Hansen rearranges 12 of Perry's more famous melodies into Celtic-infused
arrangements. I have to admit upfront that I didn't recognize all
of the songs on this album. Someone more familiar with Perry's body
of work would probably spot the more well-known pieces faster than
I could. Nevertheless, it fell on my shoulders to report on this
CD, so I do so with caution.
Musically, the album achieves its objective. The songs all sound
as if they originated on the Scottish and Irish moors. The entire
album is instrumental, and there is a nice blend of jigs, reels
and ballads. Greg Hansen, always a reliable name in Mormon music,
does a fine job here.
However, I didn't find that any song stood out as particularly awesome.
The songs tended to blend together and sound as if it was all one
song. Therefore I'm only rating the album three stars. Buy it if
you're a Celtic fan (the music, not the basketball team), or a die-hard
Perry fan. Otherwise, watch for her other exemplary works instead.
