 I
hadn't heard of Lyndsi before I reviewed this album and was surprised
to learn from her website that this is actually her fourth release.
There are twelve tracks, plus a thirteenth that is a reprise of
the title track. Lyndsi proves to be multi-talented and multi-tasks
from the vocals, the instrumentation through the production.
I would
definitely characterize her music as Inspirational. Some of it comes
close to Praise & Worship, but overall it's definitely Inspirational
that comes to mind. The tone of her lyrics resembles Hilary Weeks,
but she has her own touch. And boy is her voice lovely! I feel like
Roma Downey's character from "Touched by an Angel" in
the episode when Charlotte Church appeared and Downey's Monica lamented
that the youth had HER voice. What I would give to have such a lovely
voice!
I found
much to like about this album. Lyndsi wrote all of the songs, she
did all the instrumentation and laid down her dreamy vocals. Every
song had something for my heart to hear, but I found the following
especially moving.
"That's
a Friend" has great piano, great vocals and strong lyrics.
"Freedom
Isn't Free" is a great patriotic piece. The message is so relevant
in this day of war and rumors of war. I felt the message was good,
the vocals were good as well and I liked the guitar accompaniment.
"Take
Time to Listen" is obviously about the importance of heeding
the Holy Spirit. I liked the refrain "Take time to listen,
listen/To a voice that only hearts can hear/To a power that whispers
true and clear."
"The
Work of His Hands" stood out because of its cool synthesizer
effects and great message. I really like the message but did wonder
a little bit if the pace was appropriate. This song would have made
a great opener though with its peppier pace.
"Angel
on Earth" made me wonder if she is adopted, or if she adopted
her kids. It seemed to suggest adoption.
"Happy"
also would have made a strong opener, as it also had a peppier pace.
Instead she placed it at track 12. Nevertheless, I enjoyed and could
relate to in some sense to the joy in realizing there is happiness
found in the mundane; like kissing children and putting them to
bed.
I think
she touches on enough emotions to appeal to a fairly wide audience
of Saints. Some of the songs will speak to the Youth, while others
will resonate with parents. The musicianship is strong, the vocals
are moving and the lyrics are strong. I rate this album 3.5 stars,
worth a buy.
