LDSMN REVIEW

This 2 CD set includes 31 of Marvin Goldstein's arrangements on piano. This body of work was previously released as "Pianist" Volumes 1-3. Goldstein covers a wide range of music, from TV show themes through popular hits from Disney. A lot of the songs have inspirational themes to their lyrics that come to mind as Goldstein masterfully glides his fingers up and down the piano.

I'm not going to review this album track by track, because it'll make this review unbearably long. Instead I'd like to focus on a few of the things that work about this album.
Goldstein has been on the LDS market for quite a while. He's experienced and knows how to package his talent for the listener. He isn't as flashy as Dino or Liberace. But that matters little. He is a master in his own right.

He's created several medleys on this album. One mixes songs from Disney animated classics: "A Whole New World/Can You Feel the Love Tonight/When You Wish Upon a Star/Beauty and the Beast." It also includes "Somewhere Out There" from "Land Before Time." This list seems like he bit off more than he could chew, but he blends it all together beautifully.

My favorite medley is the "Fiddler on the Roof Medley." He did a marvelous job of capturing all the famous songs from this vibrant musical. He moves freely between the jigs and the ballads, and I found myself humming along.

He covered a number of popular hits that have been used in many a social setting. Songs such as "The Greatest Love of All," "Wind Beneath My Wings," "The Way We Were" have been used frequently on the social circuit. He covers them all with skill.
He also includes some songs from older generations, like "Stardust."

He made one of my favorite Beatles' songs, "Yesterday," sound glorious.

What really works is that he covers such a broad range of music. No matter how old or young the listener is, there is bound to be a song the listener can recognize. Consequently I'm recommending this even for the Sabbath, because it provides a nice, quiet ambience that is conducive to scripture study and reflection. A solid 4 stars for this album.
