LDSMN REVIEW
Piano prodigy Paul Cardall has added yet another album of striking music onto a long line of albums that have come before. Primary Worship weaves traditional children's primary songs through the embellishments of Cardall to create a peaceful, melodic, and ultimately stunning collection of tunes.

Aside from Cardall's masterful piano arrangements, a highlight of the disc is the addition of Steven Sharp Nelson's cello playing. If there were to be an area of improvement on the CD, it would be to make more use of Nelson's accompaniment which proved to be a perfect complement to Cardall's style of playing.

Each song maintains a degree of adherence to the original melody, enough to make each track easily recognizable. What makes the album exceptional is that Cardall builds on the core melody by adding his own touch and arrangement, especially to the beginnings and bridges of the songs. These additions leave the music feeling fresh, and prevent any part of the album from getting predictable or stale.

A distinct maturity of style, arrangement, and feel has accompanied Cardall's previous two albums, Faithful and Christmas Hymns. Primary Worship continues in that same vein and has clearly built on the foundation of his earlier work.

Highlights of the CD include "Oh, What do you do in the Summertime?" which showcases Cardall's gift for writing and arranging. "Book of Mormon Stories" boasts nearly seven minutes of music with a bit darker feel than its contemporaries on the disc. The strongest track of the album is its opener, "Baptism". The song epitomizes the blend of Cardall's piano, Nelson's cello, and light percussion from Randy Herbert.

Fans of Paul Cardall's music will find Primary Worship a "must add" to their collection, though the disc deserves to be found on the shelves of anyone who enjoys piano music. Cardall has the ability to touch listeners in a profound and meaningful way through his melodic playing.
