 I
felt cursed trying to review this album. For some crazy reason,
most of my available CD players went lulu when I tried to play this
album. Then there was the frustration of trying to access Goodman's
website, which unfortunately just displayed a blank pop-up window.
I wasn't sure I'd be able to review this album at all! Luckily my
computer saved the day and I was able to hear the entire album.
Whew!
I'm not entirely sure this is Goodman's first album. I am unfamiliar
with his name. The liner notes contain a tribute to the youth so
I suspect that he's familiar on the EFY circuit.
Despite my own unfamiliarity with him, I was greatly impressed with
the album, and noted that several familiar names worked with him.
Rick Reeve, Maren Ord and Tyler Castleton are all collaborators.
I also see longtime producer Kenny Hodges' magic touch in the mastering.
This album is packed with inspirational songs. From start to finish,
it is polished in sound and consistent in its uplifting lyrics.
I enjoyed every single one of the 10 tracks, so it was hard to pick
any favorites. "Whoso Believeth" had a nice orchestra
swell that gave it a feel of an anthem. The cover of "Come
Thou Fount of Every Blessing" was well-done. I loved the lyrics
to "If You Read." The choral performance of the EFY Medley
"As Sisters in Zion/We'll Bring the World His Truth" was
solid.
Really, the whole album is solid. I think it's suitable for the
Sabbath and for an everyday lift. I rate it 4 stars.
